Working in social media + PR, finding ways to streamline + simplify processes is crucial to success. There is always a “better” or more efficient way to do something. With new tools are being created every day, it’s up to use to find the ones that enhance our productivity + save us time.
Getting Things Done
Todist is a great tool to help you stay organized. Not only can you have tasks set up in the day + time (which you don’t have to assign) of your choosing, you can also set it up to recur. You can set it for every day, every weekday, every Tuesday, every two weeks, etc. You can also postpone events a day, a week, or until a set date.
Done is a habit building app that not only helps you build good habits, but also break bad ones. There is a free + paid version depending on how many goals you want to set. Some of my goals include drinking water, increasing the amount I floss, and taking vitamins. If you’re task-oriented, this app is for you.
Audible helps me reach one of my Done goals; it helps me finally check some books off my reading list. In just two weeks I got through the Book of Joe (highly recommend). It helps me turn my commute into 40 minutes of time to expand my mind. See what else is on my reading list this year.
Being in the Know
There are many apps that can keep you up to date on relevant news as well as world news. Depending on your needs there are a few different tools you could use.
Google Alerts, an oldie but a goodie, is great if are looking for news on a specific topic. You can set up an alert for a person, company, or event abstract topic such as “wineries.” Google would then send you alerts when news stories were posted about your topic. You can set it up to come to you immediately or once a day. It is a good way to sift through news relating to your client or industry.
Pocket is an app and Chrome extension that allows you to save articles you want to read but don’t have the time to at that moment. You can go in later when you do have some time to read them + even discover similar articles. It’s a lifesaver when you see an interesting article tweeted out but you only have a few minutes of downtime. Even if you don’t have time to read, you can always use their listening feature.
TheSkimm is a great way to get the major US and international news stories daily without having to watch or read hours of news stories. TheSkimm is a daily email newsletter that recaps the most popular and some niche news stories that are happening.
