About 2 months ago I bought Maria Menounos’s cookbook, The Everygirl’s Guide to Cooking (highly recommend). I enjoyed the book so much, I immediately bought her other two, The Everygirl’s Guide to Life + The Everygirl’s Guide to Diet and Fitness. With one chapter left in her diet + fitness book, I am officially declaring it a must-read.
Menounos’ book really does speak to the everygirl. She gives tips, tricks, and information on how to transform your diet + fitness regime to be healthier even if you don’t have the money or time to do so. She preaches the 50-year plan: taking care of your body so that in 50 years it is still healthy, fit, and showing up all the other biddies at the nursing home (my words, not hers).
Maria lost + kept off 40lbs during her news career, but she doesn’t make the book all about that. She talks about the health of her family members, boyfriend, and friends. Through her journey as a celebrity journalist, she has met amazing fitness providers + celebrities who give life + inspiration to her book. The likes of Suzanne Summers, Perez Hilton, Jessica Alba, and more give her tips on how they stay fit.
I have about 100 tabs in here or amazing tips she’s given, but I thought I’d share my favorite X with you. The rest you’ll have to discover on her own when you by this book (I will be keeping mine close)!
- Healthy > Skinny – it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
- Drink hot lemon water throughout the day.
- Eat a bowl of a water-based soup before heavy meals.
- Pick a few breakfasts + eat them every day.
- ABE: Always be moving.
- Do what works for you.
- Make your workouts convenient + fun.
- You can get a workout in anywhere.
- Mental health is as important (and often connected) to physical health.
- Don’t let slip ups deter you from keeping up with your goals.
There are dozens of great tips + interviews for both diet + fitness in this book. She even provides work out in the back that can be done at your desk or even in bed. If my Pinterest “Health” board could become a book, it would be this one! Even though she has a cookbook, there are also some great recipes in this book as well.
This book has already inspired me so much on my fitness journey by helping me see little steps I can take to change my habits instead of a complete overhaul that will be hard to stick to. What I’m saying is, if you only buy one fitness book this year, make it this one. Maria will not let you down.
