I LOVE a good conference. I love everything about them. I love exploring a new city, networking, learning from industry leaders, and, of course, all the free pens + swag. Conference world is a special place where everything + everyone are new and interesting. But, that doesn’t mean there isn’t any work or prep to be done.
The first is what you wear. When it comes to conference attire, they’re typically business casual. Skirts, dresses, blazers, slacks, etc. is what everyone will be wearing. Because conferences are usually with other professionals, you want to make sure you represent yourself + your company (if you are going on their behalf) well. Make sure you pack enough business clothes to last through every day of the conference + any night events, though those will be more casual. Many conferences also feature a night that is more formal. Don’t forget to pack efficiently, especially if you’re flying.
You’ll also want to go to the conference prepared with business cards. You will meet a lot of people + business cards are the best way to make sure you circle back + connect. Meet as many people as you can! Conferences are all about networking + learning.
Make sure you have a notepad + paper. You will be gaining so much information from the session; you won’t want to forget anything. You also may want to bring an extra phone battery. My halo was a life saver at the last conference I attended. It will definitely be in my bag next week.
What’s the best conference you’ve ever been to? Let me hear them in the comment section below.
