Last year, I skipped out on the traditional new year’s resolution in lieu of quarterly goals. It was a fun experiment that I think was semi-successful, but not something I am going to do this year. While I will still have fitness + career + personal life goals, for my 2019 new year’s resolution, I am trying something different.
A few years ago a picked up a book called How to Sew a Button and Other Nifty Things Your Grandmother Knew How to Do. This purchase was mainly inspired by the fact that I do wish I knew how to sew like my grandmother. How to Sew a Button is chock full things, 120 to be exact, that seem like things all women should know how to do, but I do not. Don’t worry guys, you can do/should know how to do these things, too but she also has a book for you entitled How to Build a Fire and Other Handy Things Your Grandfather Knew How to Do.
Over the next 12 months, I plan to take a journey into this book + learn or perfect many of the things my grandmothers knew how to do but I do not – I may even bring my living grandmother along for the ride. Each week, I will complete one task from this book as my 2019 new year’s resolution. Some I will blog about, others I will showcase on an Instagram story highlight because #accountability. I won’t detail all 52 tasks here, but I’ll tell you what I am most + least looking forward to doing.
Things I’m most excited to do for my 2019 new year’s resolution
- Roast a whole chicken
- Can my own fruits and veggies
- Make a centerpiece
- Clip coupons
- Mix the perfect cocktail
Things I’m least excited to do for my 2019 new year’s resolution
- Properly wash delicates
- Make a baby toy
- Negotiate a better price
- Play crazy eights
To be fair, I picked what I deem the most enjoyable + most accessible of the tasks. Seeing as I do not have easy access to a garden or a baby, I forwent most of those tasks. Others I choose not to pursue but may latter tackle include fileting a fish, healing a hard day, darning wool socks, starting a book club, etc.
Join me for this journey over on Instagram + stay tuned later in this year when I’ll give away a copy of How to Sew a Button! Let me know what you intend to do for your 2019 new year’s resolution!
