No matter who or what you are in life, cleanliness is important. Taking care of yourself + your environment help keep you healthy + less mentally burdened. This extends to your closet + your mouth. Dental hygiene is one important piece to the cleanliness is next to Godliness puzzle. Not only is dental hygiene important socially (no smelly breath please), but oral care is also crucial to the health of your teeth + gums. I talked to the team over at Brüush and got the low down on what we all need to do to keep our mouths fresh + clean.
Dental Hygiene Basics
I think we all know the basics of dental hygiene. Brush your teeth at least twice a day, floss, and use mouthwash. One step many of us may be neglecting is brushing our tongue. If you aren’t brushing your tongue as well, you would be missing out on bacteria lurking there. That’s why many toothbrushes now have textured backs – they want you to use that on your tongue! Brüush even has a special setting that does all the tongue cleaning work for you. Another way you could be slacking on your oral care is not brushing long enough. Two minutes is the recommended time to brush your teeth, not one minute as I had been previously told.
If you follow the dental hygiene routine I’ve laid out above, your dentist will be very pleased with you at your next 6-month visit – that’s how often you should be seeing them. Bad oral care is more serious than you think tooth decay (aka cavities) are the second most common preventable disease in the US. As someone who has a big sweet tooth, taking care of my teeth is important to keep me showing off my smile.
Keeping those White Pearly
A few months ago, I share my experience with Smile Brilliant. It’s an amazing product for getting your teeth whiter. But when it comes to keeping them white, there are steps you can + should take. The first is following the dental hygiene planned laid out above. Another key is to get food residue off your teeth before it has a chance to stain. If you’re a coffee, wine, or soda love, you know how important this can be. Another big oral care secret: avoid tobacco. It is one of the top contributors to teeth discoloration not to mention the gum disease + bad breath.
Why Brüush Rocks Oral Care
While Brüush is not a sponsor for this post, they did send me a product to try + I am very impressed. This electric toothbrush takes oral care + dental hygiene seriously. Not only is it pretty (which you know matters to me) it is also super easy to use + more affordable than most of its competitors on the market. It uses sonic technology to go over 30,000 brush strokes per minute. It also has multiple cleaning modes (including tongue), has a rechargeable battery, and lets you subscribe to get replacement heads which is super easy. I know you are not replacing your toothbrush as often as you should.
Another thing that really impresses me about Brüush is their support of A Reason to Smile. Brüush sends an oral care package of a toothbrush, toothpaste, and fluoride treatment to a person in need for every brush head replacement package they ship. ♥️
Hopefully, this post gives you a little more information on how to properly take care of your teeth. If you want to try Brüush out for yourself, I’ll be giving one away on Thursday, February 28. Be sure you’re following on Instagram so you don’t miss your chance to win!
