Well, the places to visit series is finally coming to an end. We’ve talked about top destinations in the United States plus the rest of North, Central, and South America. I also listed places you would want to visit in Europe and in Asia. We’ve got two continents left to cover, Africa + Australia. In this post, I’ll discuss my top 10 African vacation destinations.
I’m the first to admit that an African isn’t at the top of my list. It’s not that I wouldn’t like to visit Africa, it’s just that there are a lot of places on my travel bucket list ahead of it. However, researching for this post has certainly moved some of these African vacation destinations higher in my rankings. If I am to ever visit the continent (which I hope I can do) these are the spots I would want to see first.
African Vacation Destinations
Morocco – Morrocco is probably at the top of my African vacation destinations list. I am so attracted to the architecture there. If buildings aren’t your thing, go the other way + ride a camel through the Sahara. Morocco is a pretty conservative country, so take these outfit tips from the Blonde Abroad.
Cairo – This Egyptian city is a must-visit on your African vacation destinations list. If you like history or just marveling at natural wonders, the pyramids are for you. They aren’t the only thing to see, though. Make sure you leave time for other sights.
Cape Town – Cape Town is likely one of the most common African vacation destinations. Located in possibly the most developed country on the continent, there are plenty of things to see + do along with modern amenities. Top activities include seeing the penguins, visiting wine country, and sight-seeing in Bo-Kaap.
Johannesburg – Another South African gem, Johannesburg may not be as popular as Cape Town, but it is just as amazing. The city is still updating certain areas even after the 2010 FIFA cup, so there are plenty of great places to stay, shop, and more.
Botswana – Botswana is arguably one of the safest countries on the continent making it a great option as one of your African vacation destinations. This is a great place to see big game like hippos, lions, zebras, etc.
Kenya – When most people think African vacation destinations, they think safari. When people think safari, they think Kenya.
Tunisia – Like Morocco, Tunisia has gorgeous architecture – very Instagram worthy. It’s a wonderful place to experience a luxury vacation but also local culture.
Namibia – Namibia is another place to see those amazing African animals. You can also see while desert horses, flamingos, and seals. Don’t forget to take a picture at the Cape of Capricorn sign.
Mozambique – Located on the Indian Ocean, Mozambique has a rich culture + history. The beaches offer scuba diving + surfing. And, while it is one of the world’s poorest countries, there are plenty of places to shop + eat where you can add to the local economy.
Seychelles – The beaches on these islands maybe some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Away from the beaches, the country is just as pretty with its lush vegetation.
No matter which of these African vacation destinations you choose to visit, you’re sure to have an amazing adventure. Is Africa high on your travel bucket list?
