Cotton Candy is really having its moment in 2019. It was always a fair favorite, but now it’s being used on milkshakes and even as a substitute for a wedding bouquet. While I am not on board with that trend (how do you keep it from melting?!) I am on board with cotton candy everything. Fun fact about me: I LOVE cotton candy. Cotton candy candles, lollipops, and ice cream have been gracing my home for years. The newest sweet treat I’m obsessed with is a combination of two things I love, the cotton candy margarita.
Maybe it’s move love of Grey’s Anatomy, maybe it’s my time in Austin, but am always up for a marg. Strawberry is my go to, but I have been known to love a prickly pear + hibiscus as well. When I first heard that cotton candy margaritas were a thing, I was sold. The sweetness, the color – all things I am very into. I was even more excited when realized how easy it would be to make one. I adapted a recipe from Such the Spot + am now the proud maker of a cotton candy margarita on the reg.
Making a Cotton Candy Margarita
As I said, making a cotton candy margarita is pretty simple. To me, pretty simple means I don’t need too many things, particularly ones I won’t use often (looking at you elderflower liqueur). Most of the ingredients in this should be stocked in your bar if you’re following my previous guide. The rest are easily acquired. Here is what you’re going to need to make this drink:
- 1 cup of tequila
- 1/2 cup of lime juice
- 2/3 cup of cream soda
- 1/4 cup of triple sec
- cotton candy (I tried both pink AND blue)
Making a cotton candy margarita is even easier than getting the ingredients. You make it like most other margs with a small twist at the end.
- Step 1: Place large chunks of cotton candy into glasses. You want cotton candy to take up half to three-fourths of the glass.
- Step 2: Combine tequila, lime juice, cream soda, and triple sec into a shaker + shake.
- Step 3: Pour over cotton candy and stir until totally dissolved.
- Step 4: Add ice + enjoy!
You may not have a sweet tooth as I do, but you can still enjoy a cotton candy margarita nonetheless. If anything, do it for your inner carnival-loving child! Once you try this recipe, comment here or over on Instagram + let me know your reaction.
