Memphis is a vibrant city. It has an emerging arts scene, great local shops, and wonderful restaurants. There is a rich history + culture in the city that loves to support the eat local + shop local initiative. I grew up in the suburbs of the city + after leaving for about six years, I’m amazed at the growth I’ve seen. I now spend a good deal of time downtown + it is a great example of the revitalization taking place across the city. There are constantly new places in Memphis popping up. Here are my five picks to check out this summer!
New Places in Memphis
Nail Bar & Co. – Hello, beautiful! Nail Bar & Co. is the “it” place to get your nails done in Memphis. The design of their Saddle Creek store is gorgeous + their atmosphere is amazing. They always have great movies on the TVs + like any great nail salon in 2019, they serve mimosas. The thing I love most about Nail Bar & Co. is their talent. They create amazing nail art. I can’t wait to go back + get my next design. Saddles Creek is their new, Memphis location but you can also find them downtown + in Oxford.
Nine01 II Five04 – If you’re a clothes lover like me, this shop is for you! Located in The Edge District, this store is a collection of cute clothes + accessories with Memphis + New Orleans flair. They carry clothes for both men + women, along with accessories, shoes, and jewelry. They’ll be celebrating their grand opening on August 17, 2019, so be sure to check them out! This is seriously one of my favorite new places in Memphis.
New Restaurants in Memphis
Bar Ware – I love a fancy cocktail + Bar Ware, located in downtown Memphis, has some of the best. This new bar has some delicious, non-pretentious cocktails as well as a great selection of wine + food. The patio hasn’t opened quite yet, but I can already tell it is going to be amazing. The space is great + the in-house menu is full of delicious options. I’ve only had the charcuterie, but the grilled cheese looked delish. They’ll have a brunch menu out soon! They’re also connected to/with Juice Brothers, so you know the juices in their drinks are on point.
knifebird – Speaking of wine + charcuterie, Knifebird is the place to beat! This spot is located in Cooper Young District across from another Midtown great, Railgarten! This bar has a great neighborhood feel with a carefully-curated wine list + local beer. They serve the BEST prosecco I have ever tasted. It was so smooth. They have a limited food menu, but they are one of the new places in Memphis that is perfect for happy hour or a nightcap. The ambiance is very intimate.
Saltwater Crab – I’ve been singing Memphis’ praises in this post but one thing it lacks is great water space. We’re about seven hours from the beach + the Mississippi doesn’t quiet offer fun water time. For this reason, I am pretty wary about seafood at most places, but not Saltwater Crab. Located by Overton Square, the interior may *almost* make you forget you aren’t seaside. They serve everything under the sea from Alaska crab legs to oysters to sushi. They also have a great selection of non-seafood options.
Hopefully, this list of new places in Memphis inspires you to go out + explore the city. What are some of your favorite places in the Bluff City?
