Clearly, the middle of a pandemic is not the best time to move or shop for a new house. But that doesn’t mean that some people haven’t found themselves in that situation. One plus of moving during the COVID-19 crisis is that people will have plenty of time to set up their homes before having people in it. We’ve got weeks (at minimum) to spend time at home setting up your bookshelves perfectly + to start brainstorming housewarming party ideas.
Housewarming parties are one of my favorites to attend. Because 1) I love seeing people’s homes and 2) they are a great way to meet new people + connect with old friends. They are much more chill than a birthday party to a wedding. The focus isn’t so strongly on a specific person or couple, it is more about them showing you their new accomplishment. Housewarming parties also allow for creativity + fun.
Housewarming Party Ideas
Stock the Bar Party – This is one of the simplest housewarming party ideas. The jist is, many people move without a fully stocked kitchen or bar. Guests bring wine, spirits, and other items to help complete their bar.
Recipe Party – Bring your favorite homemade dish to the party. Then, leave the recipe for the new homeowners so they can make it themselves!
A Tasting Party – Do you have something you love to make or consumer? Throw a tasting party! Whether it is beer, chicken wings, rosé, or cheeses, bring your friends over to enjoy a variety with you.
Traditional BBQ – You know I love a backyard BBQ. If you have the outdoor space, you can throw one as well. Be sure to include this simple dessert on the menu.
Around the Clock Party – I’ve been to wedding showers like this, but I think it could be a fun take on a housewarming party as well. The premise is, people bring something to your party that you can use at a designated time (i.e. 6 AM, 2 PM, 10 PM, etc.). Add a little more fun by setting a $20 limit.
Year-Round Party – Similar to the concept of the around the clock party, except everyone gets assigned a month instead of a time.
Romm by Room Party – It’s the same concept as those above, except people get assigned a room to buy for.
Giveaway Party – This is basically the opposite of the previous few parties as it’s all about minimalism. For this housewarming party idea, see what items you don’t need/have room for when move in. Wrap those items. Give each person who comes a random number that’s connected to a present or just let them choose randomly as they leave. It’s a fun way to get rid of stuff white elephant style.
No matter what kind of party you choose to throw I am sure it will be a blast. Let’s be honest, every post quarantine party is going to be the time of our lives.
